RI Senate District 1
Raised in Cranston, Dr. Anderson now resides in Providence. She is an ordained minister, educator, counselor, and social activist. She was the Executive Minister for the Rhode Island State Council of Churches and has been involved with so many other organizations, committees and tasks forces, both religious and civic.
After seven decades of confusion, dysphoria, and shame, Dr. Anderson revealed that she was transgender and began the process of transition. In September 2018 she returned to work following a three-month sabbatical as the Rev. Donnie Anderson. She continues to work for social justice from a faith perspective with an additional emphasis on her experience as a transgender woman. Now Dr. Anderson has noticed the damage the conservative leadership in the statehouse is doing especially for reproductive rights and plans to take another stand for the rights of all.
